SEO or Search Engine Optimization is something all bloggers must be aware of more or less. If otherwise, a blog cannot be as successful as it was planned.

There are a few important and common terms used in SEO, the meaning of which all bloggers must be familiar with.

1) Page Rank

Page rank is an algorithm used by Google to analyse the relative importance of pages in the entire web. The basic idea behind algorithm is the face that a link from page A to page B is regarded as a token of trust from page A to page B. The higher the number of links a specific page gets the higher is the probability of it being indexed quickly by the crawler.

2) Anchor Text

The anchor text is that part of a backlink that is clickable on the web page. When the anchor text of a page is rich in relevant keywords, Google will associate these keywords with the content of the website.

If you prepare a blog on 'how to make a blog' or 'how to publish a blog', then you must include the word 'blog' or 'blogging' in your anchor text.

3) Backlink

Backlink is actually a hyperlink used by another website pointing back to your website. Backlink  is very important in terms of SEO - the more the number of backlinks a page gets the higher is the Page Rank.

4) Meta Tags

Meta tags are used by all websites to give search engine relevant data/information about the content or subject of its pages.

Meta tags are placed in the <head> section of html code and therefore, are not visible to our eyes.

5) Title Tags

This tag refers to the title of a web page. The title of a web page must be written with the relevant keywords. Using right keywords in Title Tag helps Google's search algorithm to understand the contents of the pages, leading to proper indexing of those web pages.

6) Search Algorithm

Google's search algorithm helps viewers find the most relevant web pages for any search query. To do this, Google's algorithm takes into account several factors like meta tags, title tags, content, keywords, page rank, tenure of the domain and as well as a lot of other factors.

7) Search Engine Result Pages(SERP)

As is clear from the title, it refers to the number of pages presented by the 'Search Engine' for a specific keywords or a set of keywords. Page Rank of a domain is high a dominant factor in this regard.

8) No Follow

This is an instruction to the Google Crawler not to index a specific page or a set of pages as wished by the admin of a website or a blog.

As you know, a blogger seldom wants Google crawler not to index its contact, terms & conditions and sitemap pages. By a 'now follow' instructions Google will not count those links for 'page rank' or 'search algorithm'.

9) Keyword Density

Keyword Density refers to the number of times a keyword or a set of keywords appears in a specific page. Keeping keyword density within a limit of 2 percent to 5 percent is usually the best practice.

This means if you prepare an article of 500 words the number of times your keyword appears should be between 10 to 25.

If it is more than that then there is the risk of the Google Crawler blacklisting your page as a spam and may avoid indexing your web page.
